Rest in Peace
by DCDave

Taking the path of least resistance,
Going with the flow.
Holding reality at a safe distance,
Trying not to know.

Throwing the book at petty offenses,
Keeping crime in check.
Accepting badly tortured defenses
To save the ruler's neck.

One by one gigantic distortions
Land like hammer blows,
And crimes of monumental proportions
Slip right by our nose.

The courage to see it and announce it
Is in very short supply.
If we can't find the will to denounce it,
Democracy will die.

Never mind what I just said.
Democracy, like Kennedy, is dead.
