Light Lines, Heavy Heart
by DCDave

Doleful thoughts in sprightly verse
May be better, may be worse,
But my productions aren't the first.

They may find their place among
Other perky dirges sung,
Like "To an Athlete Dying Young."

I see no need for aspect dour
To better suit the bitter hour,
When promised sweetness turns out sour.

There will be time for frowning fears
When a deeper darkness nears,
But now let's smile some through the tears.
